Summer Break is Over - Part 1

We had to travel to St. Louis for Tyler's check up with Dr. Dobbs. Since Frank had a couple of days off, we decided to make it one last summer adventure before we start back to school next week. Our day started with a five hour drive (we did stop for lunch). First we had to get the business side of the trip done.We were hoping Tyler would be released from wearing his brace, but that didn't happen. They decided to measure him for a new one. He picked out the camouflage coloring.

Then we had the rest of the afternoon to fill and the zoo is free, so that's where we headed. We have been here a few times, but you can always find something new!
We got an up close look at the hippos. They were swimming around and around and passing by right in front of the glass.
This was another new find. We were admiring these pretty flowers and then found a sign telling about them. They are called skunk cabbage and it said they smell like decaying flesh. Lets just say they didn't lie!

Then we headed downtown to Union Station to look around and maybe find a place for dinner. The boys decided to try the bungee jump.

I think they enjoyed it.

We walked around and learned some of the history before deciding on a place for dinner. I don't know why but we chose The Hard Rock Cafe. We are officially getting old, the music was too loud, it was smokey, and the food was way overpriced. At least the music was so loud we couldn't understand most of the words!

After dinner we walked around outside, fed the fish, drove a little remote controlled boat, then headed for the motel.

Looks like a fun time! We need to do that close vacation one of these days. (& I've heard of skunk cabbage but never saw one and didn't know about the decaying flesh smell - very interesting!)
