St. Louis /Chicago Trip - Day 2
We were off bright and early for the next leg of our trip - St. Louis. We had to stop by St. Louis Children's Hospital for a check up on Tyler's foot. Everything was great, come back in several months, and we're off again for Chicago! We saw a LOT of corn in Illinois! I wanted to stop for a drink for the 5-6 hour drive, but all we saw was corn. Finally saw an exit with 2 little stations by the highway. We got off, the first station was closed down. That's okay, go to the other one. Nope, it's closed too! Okay, drive through the whole little town , no gas station, no grocery store, no businesses! Lots of corn fields! Lots of houses. We're not sure where these people get gas or food, but we decided to get out of there and back on the highway!
We passed a lot of these giant windmills too.
We decided to make a last minute addition to our itinerary. A little jaunt to see some of Luke and Nia's China friends. We also met this family in China, almost two years ago, as we traveled together. Nia was excited to see her friend Gracie!
The Beijing kiddos!
This was the group we bombarded the restaurant with, plus four adults! Thanks for meeting us on such short notice C family!
With our added excursion we didn't get to Chicago till about 11pm. We found the hotel (in downtown), found the parking garage (after a call to the hotel), got checked in, and we're out in the hallway about to enter our room when here comes a group of people with guns and bullet proof vests on. They went to the room next door, knocked and said "this is hotel security, we have the police, open the door." Not the way you want to start your stay in an unknown place! Never heard anything else, and we did survive the night!
