12

This was Nia's twelfth birthday, but the second birthday celebrated in America. She enjoyed a few days of fun activities! Gifts, birthday spankings, brownie cake, Chinese buffet, grandparents, cousins, doughnuts, and the park were all packed in there. Nia is a very strong willed and determined little girl. These aren't necessarily bad traits, and I'm sure they've served her well in her past. They can be a challenge though when trying to fit in to a family ( a family that she wasn't sure she really wanted). When we met Nia in China she struggled with the decision of whether or not to go with us. She wouldn't wear any of the hair clips or necklaces we gave her. After she signed the paperwork to go with us, she went back to our hotel and immediately put the necklace and hair clips on. Once home, she continued to struggle with who we were and how she fit in with us. She would also look at other families and dream and wish for something better. Over the last few weeks I believe she decided we are her family (and she wants to be in ours), and just like with the necklace, she accepted us. Her whole attitude, and our family relationships have changed almost overnight. Praising God for the miracles only He can work!

Susan, before I forget, I have to tell you how much I love the China Rocks picture of your wonderful children! Each time I spotted one of them at China Camp I had to smile - they really are just great kids!

& I want to tell Nia a belated Happy Birthday. I think that when a child has struggled greatly it makes their love and acceptance of their family even more precious. I thank the Lord for helping your Nia (and our little Allie) trust us enough to allow themselves to accept our love and to love us in return.

So happy for Nia and for your family!
